Lady and Leaf Tea Company is a proud sponsor of solitary honey bees in Northern Virginia. A portion of our profits is dedicated to supporting solitary bees; from installing bee houses, to planting native flowers for them to pollinate.

In some regions, up to 90% of the honey bee population has disappeared due to the use of toxic pesticides and global warming. The good news is: we can help!

Solitary bees are lone bees without a colony; they actually make up the majority of the bee population. Besides purchasing tea and tea accessories from Lady and Leaf, which enables us to buy more bee houses and plants, there are other ways you can help save the bees!

1) Do not use toxic fertilizers and pesticides

These harsh chemicals are toxic to the bees. There are a lot of natural fertilizers and pesticides that you can use that do as good of a job!

2) Leave out water for the bees

Bees get thirsty in the hot summer months. You can help by making sure bees have access to water. There are several things that can catch water, and act as a cup for bees - bird waterers, kiddie pools, pie plates, dog bowls... anything that holds water for thirsty bees buzzing by.

3) Install bee houses on your property

Bee houses are sold in every major home improvements store at a low cost - Home Depot, Lowes, Walmart. Not only are these bee houses cute, but they are also fully functional. They come with wood reeds installed; these reeds allow female solitary bees to lay their eggs inside, and the eggs will be safe and protected inside the reed.

4) Plant flowers

Bees love flowering plants, this is their source of food (nectar and pollen).

Thank you all for your help. Together, we can make a difference!
